Are...are you sure this is just a Flash game? I mean...damn. Not just the sheer size of the game, but the fact that it's actually a pretty faithful capsule of the 3D Mario games, and manages to look resplendent in the process.
The only complaint I'd be able to lodge is that it slows down way too much if you zoom out at all, but compared to just how much else you packed in here (even an editor, WTF) it's a minor issue. Well done.

It was pretty much cake for a good portion of the game, then the later ones seemed to feed you nothing BUT the color/shape that would damage you. I wound up using my clear to eliminate more than half a screen's worth of bad shapes, then got the exact same pile of them (20 or so) with only a tiny handful of pieces that WEREN'T immediately thereafter.
So basically the game was extremely easy for about 13 levels, then a meat grinder with downright spiteful AI after. Neither of which are particularly fun. To be honest, I'm not sure how to get a better balance out of it, but that's the main problem.

"Apparently this is the butter-skates ninja."
You'd think a master of martial arts and assassination would be wearing shoes with some degree of traction. The controls felt even more slippery than Bubsy.

Basically it comes down to hitting a spell every 1-2 minutes, and pressing Z-X at appropriate times. Ironically, there's more involved gameplay BETWEEN fights when you're picking what cards to use than DURING the fight itself.
I appreciate how it's less unapologetically grindy than EW2, but...now it's just not even a game.

Damn good job. I have to admit I started playing it without looking who the creator was, but the whole way through I was thinking "the soundtrack and dialogue remind me of Mardek somehow..."
The whole thing was pretty much spot-on. The controls didn't feel clunky in the slightest, and there wasn't the usual wonky hit detection that usually plagues these old-timey games.
I found myself getting cocky for getting through the spike hell stuff without much of a hitch because I'm really good at the platforming stuff...then the boss ate my face in the space of literally five seconds. It took me a while to react to the second shot in his pattern quickly and consistently enough to beat him, but I got it eventually -- and it didn't feel like you made him too fast or anything, it felt just right to be hard-but-doable without requiring dumb luck at all.
The only thing I'm really concerned about is your attention getting split too badly between this and Mardek, but if the variety keeps you from going insane, more power to ya. Best of luck on both projects, and I still think it's high time for a real developer to hire your ass :)

Interesting to see that my style is recognisable like that!
I'm working on several projects at the moment, which is why MARDEK 3 is taking forever... since if you've ever tried to work on one creative project for many months, you'll know how hard it is to keep your attention on it even when the end is so far from sight.
I wanted to make quick games like this though mainly for the *money*, since I do get paid for Flash games that I release, after all.

I had a good time, but I have to bring up something that really only shows in the last level, with the bugs. I'm trying to zap them, right? And I have to zap them fast before they pepper the whole screen with fire and bites and stuff. And I have to hit them perfectly or I stop the guy's heart, which would be bad.
But every time I zap one, this neon green sign pops up right where I hit him, completely obstructing my view of the next one with how I'm running this SWEET 50x combo and I'm scoring lots of POINTS and I'm so AWESOME --
GET OUT OF THE WAY! Stupid score sign.
Yeah. I wouldn't mind if those little signs were out of the way in a corner, or even if they disappeared altogether while zapping bugs.

And forget Flash. I'm trying this out in my sketchbook during econ class, my hand-drawn perspective needs some love :D

Agility was a little ridiculously overpowered. By stacking two parts Agility and one part Power, I was basically oneshotting most of the lv40+ robots with a 4000+ critical charge and never getting touched in return even if I missed the charge.
Also, your calculated hit chances seem quite off. I was consistently missing about seven attacks in a row with an advertised 90% hit chance.

I just read the story of Orpheus like, last night. I nearly shat myself when I got to the part where you're leading the ghost out and can't look back.
Proof that Newgrounds nerds know good literature :D

"SonicTeam needs to just shut up and hire you guys."
No, really. Not only are you guys doing the sense of humor better than they are right now, you're doing characterization, writing, and pretty much everything else substantive better as well -- it's a bit more subtle to see in ridiculous parody like this, but it's apparent enough. Hell, even a couple of your voice actors are a sight better than Jason lol4Kids Griffith.
